"EDUCATE" SESSION SPECIAL

What is an "Educate" Session?

We understand that not everyone has (or can afford) a CPA to help with their questions about taxes, business accounting, starting a business, bookkeeping etc.  Or maybe you already have someone helping, but do not feel comfortable talking with them about a certain subject? "Educate" Sessions are available to fill that gap for you.  The session is an up to 30 minute Zoom call available to provide guidance and "educate" you so that you can make informed decisions on the subject.  We are here to "educate" you and not judge, so we are strong believers in "there are no dumb questions."  This is not an engagement with our firm for tax advice as there may not be enough time to discuss all the matters that would result in tax advice.

Purpose of an "Educate" Session

The purpose of the session is to explain accounting, tax and business topics in a manner that you can understand.  We realize that many accounting and tax topics can be very confusing and we have many years of experience teaching new accountants and working with business owners and individuals to provide explanations and educate you in those matters so that you are informed on the topic.  We also understand that a google search can answer many questions, but sometimes it is more helpful to talk or hear that information and ask more pointed questions to your situation.  This session is designed to help you understand.

Do I need to be a client or become a client to schedule an "Educate" Session?

No, you do not need to be a client and you will not be pressured into engaging our firm for any additional services.  The purpose of this session is to provide explanations and guidance to you and it is not designed for complex situations or to be used as a basis for taking any position on financial statements and/or tax returns.  This is NOT a consulting engagement.  It is strictly to provide information to you.  The session is actually not designed for our clients as we hope our clients are already addressing their questions to us as part of the services we currently provide.

How do I know if my situation/question is a good fit for the "Educate" Session?

There are many topics that can be discussed. When scheduling the session, it is required for you to enter your topic/question/details so that we can be prepared.  If you are looking for an answer to a complex question or some other topic that we can not address in the session, we will let you know prior to the session.  The session would be a good fit for those trying to understand an accounting, general business or tax situation and not sure how to get information to make an informed decision. It is also a great fit if you have tried to look into it and are just becoming confused or frustrated with all the different answers and information available and not sure what applies to your specific situation.  It is not appropriate for any topics we do not provide services for, as noted under the FAQ tab - this includes anything with non-US citizens or non-US business owners/entities.

What are some sample topics that might be a good fit for an "Educate" Session?

Some topics/situations that would work well -

  • I'm buying/selling a home and not sure how that impacts my taxes or what I have to report on my tax return or which documents I need to keep.
  • I'm thinking about starting a business, but not sure what I should even consider  to do this or steps I should take to look into this.
  • I started a small business and I am not sure if I need a bookkeeper or what documents I should keep for tax purposes or if I can just do the bookkeeping myself using excel or a software program.
  • I am starting a business and my attorney said I can be a corporation or an LLC (etc.). What is the difference in these and/or what is the tax impact? the attorney tried to explain it to me, but I still don't understand the difference.
  • I have a small business and I need more guidance on what expenses are tax deductible as I prepare my own return and not sure what documents I need to track or keep for this.
  • I do nails/hair/electrical work/Uber/Rover etc. on the side (or as a full-time business), how do I report this on my tax return?
  • My friend said they write off home expenses for taxes, what are guidelines I need to consider to do this?
  • This is not an all inclusive list.  The session is not designed to provide an answer to any complex specific situation or give tax advice, but rather give you information to assist you in understanding the topic better.
